The highly-awaited second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel arrives on the streaming platform soon, and fan speculation has been widespread.
The first season presents a large cast of characters living within the afterlife, pits them against each other with musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and builds heated competitions and emotional bonds that drive audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the binding agreement constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the showrunner stated recently. "But I feel like me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That might mean fans have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how fast season 2 moves, and how much of what they're anticipating unfolds this season.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some incredible disclosures, some fascinating backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — especially in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a few fans make a bingo card about the new season," she says. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've actually done a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on the streaming service on October 29.
