Finest TV Selections: Seven Must-Watch Movies In the Days Ahead

Top Selection

The Substance

Director Coralie Fargeat's unflinching satire addresses the tyranny of women's appearance and the dreaded aspects of growing older. Hollywood star Demi Moore offers an inspired acting turn in the role of Elisabeth, a 50-year-old actress reduced to presenting a workout series on the small screen. Pushed out due to her slimy boss her manager Harvey, she undergoes a mysterious and terrifying procedure known as "The Substance". This generates a new version of herself portrayed by Margaret Qualley, culminating in an increasingly vampiric relationship among both women. October 17th, the streaming service Paramount+

The Woman in Cabin 10

This suspenseful story includes Knightley as Laura, a top-notch writer who decides to take a break from reporting on international wars to embark on a high-end voyage accompanied by a terminally ill Scandinavian billionaire and donor, her husband, as well as other extremely wealthy individuals. Yet once an unknown lady falls into the sea one night and all passengers denies she ever existed, her journalistic curiosity take over. Out now, on Netflix

This Supernatural Story

Steven Soderbergh pushes his creative boundaries through this nifty paranormal narrative filmed completely through the eyes of the phantom. After a clan with Lucy Liu as Rebekah plus Callina Liang as Chloe settles into their fresh home, the lens – as the unseen entity – shadows their actions. The daughter appears aware of the ghostly being, and it looks like guarding her. However, the motive remains? The premise is enjoyable that remains concise, featuring a surprise you might not see coming. Saturday 11 October, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, the Sky channel

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

The iconic actor wholeheartedly adopts his unique fame in this meta comedy caper. He plays an egotistical Hollywood actor called Nicolas Cage who accepts a million-dollar gig to visit a celebration in Mallorca for the rich superfan Javi. Contacted by the intelligence agency to gather intel on the potential kingpin, the actor's “nouveau shamanic acting ability” is put to the test. Saturday 11 October, 9pm, the Channel 4 network

The Black Phone Horror

Derrickson's locked-room horror remains effective even without a continuation. Located in the late 70s in Denver, a series of child abductions has made the children anxious. Once Finney gets captured by the kidnapper and imprisoned in a cellar, he dreads the worst. But the disconnected phone mounted nearby continues to ring, with ghostly voices giving advice, while the prophetic visions of Gwen, his sister could save him. An effective horror. Saturday 11 October, late evening, the Film4 channel

The Eyes of Tammy Faye

In the battle between God and Mammon, the winner is obvious for materialism in this director's delightfully tacky film adaptation of the disgraced TV preacher plus her lawbreaking partner. Garfield portrays the corrupt Bakker, who states at the beginning, claiming divine approval for wealth. Both individuals begin profiting from the nation's religious faith. It's a spectacle of poor styling, excessive cosmetics and hypocrisy, however Jessica Chastain succeeds to show the character as a sympathetic figure. Next Tuesday, late night, the Film4 channel

Black Bag

This period's additional entry from Steven Soderbergh presents a spy mystery as sharp similar to the collars used by Michael Fassbender's UK spy. He is tasked to identify a traitor among the team out of five possibilities – one of whom is his spouse. Each performer are masters of deadpan cool, so a delicious mental battle of fact versus fiction develops. Additional actors take part the smart espionage amusement. October 17th, various showings, the Sky channel
